Swift Creek Study
General Observations-Loading Process
- Teachers
were present in the bay area with walkie-talkies to radio the numbers down
to the cafeteria (basement) where the children were waiting.
- At
3:25 (5 minutes before pickup time began) the principal walked around the
queue and took note of the numbers in the parent’s windshields.
- There
were 3 bays and 3 safety patrol children who opened car doors and escorted
children to their appropriate cars.
- Several
pedestrians walked across the active traffic lane during the pick-up
times.
- Some
parents parked in the blockaded area and walked inside to pick up their
children.
- For a
brief period of time the parking lot was backed up from cars wanting to
make left handed turns out onto the access road to Tryon Road.
General Observations-Queuing Process
- No
spillage occurred. Maximum queue stopped short of the storage length.
- Hardly
any use of the exit lane on Tryon Rd. Most car riders prefer to use the
exit on Yates Mill Pond Rd.
