The
children were all waiting in no particular order outside of the front
doors of the school.
The
carpool line was very short.Double lanes were utilized and there were three adults out in the
middle of the active traffic directing the cars.
The
whole process seemed very chaotic. Some parents would park in the carpool line and then get out of
their cars and go pick up their children. There didn’t seem to be any kind of organization to the whole
process.But it worked out alright
because there weren’t very many kids who were being picked up by cars.
No one
escorted the kids to their parent’s cars. There was no kind of safety patrol.
There
was a policeman standing at the corner of the adjacent street assisting
kids and parents walking across to apartment buildings on the other side.
There
were a high number of walkers at this school.
In the
data collection, some cars left from faculty parking and drove through the
bay area so they didn’t stop in the bay area to pick up a child. This caused some of the recorded times
to be slightly skewed.
Some
“walkers” were observed crossing active traffic in the bay area. These areas did not appear to be
designated cross walks
Position
1 watch and the video time slow by 15 seconds from position 2 and 3.
General Observations-Queuing Process
Hardly
any queuing because cars were directed, by one of the assistants, to the
adjoining parking at peak, to prevent spillage on Taylor St.
