ITRE’s Public Transportation research addresses a broad range of topic areas of interest to the transit industry. Recent research projects have investigated the use of alternative-fueled vehicles, improved management of human resources at rural transit systems, use of performance measures and standards to improve transit efficiency and effectiveness, and methods to improve the coordination and delivery of transit services. The expert staff draws upon a variety of experience in the industry, multi-faceted analytical capabilities, and effective communications skills to provide solutions that are both feasible and applicable.
Recently, the Group worked with the Outer Banks Transportation Task Force to research and provide solutions for transportation issues along the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This research was awarded to ITRE after successful bicycle and pedestrian research which included the study of the economic impacts from bicycle facilities in the northern Outer Banks area. This study demonstrates an annual return on investment of approximately nine times the cost of construction of the facilities.
