Exhibitor Information - Data Collection

The data collection portion has been completed. Thank you to everyone who participated. Results will be made available at the workshop.

Are You Interested in Being a Data Collection Exhibitor?

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), North Carolina State University (NCSU), Transportation Research Board (TRB), United States Department of Transportation (USDOT), and American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO) are sponsoring the 2008 National Workshop on Highway Asset Management and Data Collection on September 24-26, 2008. The Workshop will include national speakers, work sessions, discussions, and lots of time for you to meet with state and municipal transportation officials from around the nation and display your data collection and analyses products.

If your company has an interest in being a part of this workshop and performing an exercise demonstrating data collection and reduction capabilities then read on.

NCDOT has identified a challenging 90-mile course in central North Carolina on which sponsors would like to collect various roadway data elements. Any data your company collects will be submitted for analysis and compared to the ground truth data collected manually by NCDOT and NCSU. A report will be published and distributed at the workshop which will include your company's data as compared to the ground truth data. The report will not make comparisons between exhibitors, and no "winners" will be identified. The report will be a valuable resource for many potential customers.

Data Elements to be Collected and Test Track Information

The workshop staff has identified a list of data elements we are interested in collecting. The elements are divided into four primary areas of interest: Pavement, Roadside Appurtenances, Bridges, and Geotechnical and Drainage. A detailed list of data elements for each area are identified on the individual links below. Please identify the data elements your team is interested in collecting on the test track. You do not have to collect all the data elements within an area, and if you have equipment that will obtain data elements for multiple areas please indicate this. If you wish to collect data on elements not shown on the list include this information at the end.

Workshop staff will make every effort to convey to your team the desired data format in a clear way, and will be available to answer any questions you may have about data or formatting at any point in the process. Our aim is to provide your team the fairest possible exercise in an effort to benefit you and potential customers. Your completed data set should be submitted in the format and manner specified on the conference website.

The calendar indicates days that are available for your team to run the test track. Please select three date options where your team would be available to perform the data collection exercise.

Return the calendar - with your dates marked and the Inventory Asset Data Collection Elements form (Pavement, Roadside Appurtenances, Bridges, and Geotechnical and Drainage) indicating the asset elements on which you will be collecting data. Information should be returned to the following address by April 25, 2008.

North Carolina Department of Transportation
State Road Maintenance Unit
4809 Beryl Road
Raleigh, NC 27606
Attention: Scott Capps, PE

Data collection teams will be allotted a four hour time period to run the test track. In the event that additional time is needed to conduct data collection please indicate this on the calendar with a detailed justification for additional time requirements. If needed, traffic control for Bridge and Geotechnical data collection will be the responsibility of the data collection teams and should comply with all MUTCD and NCDOT traffic control guidelines. Roadside and Pavement data collection elements are expected to be obtained without the use of traffic control.
