Questions for November 29th BMP Database Panel from the City of Boise Stormwater Program in Boise, ID:

(1) Why are infiltration practices so desperately under represented in the database?

(2) How will the database be updated in the long term to address regional and/or state certification for effectiveness?

Reply from Ben Urbonas, Urban Drainage & Flood Control District (Denver, CO):

The database contains data on sites that submitted their test data.  Very few infiltration sites submitted data or have a reference site to compare against as required by the database.

Reply from Richard Tveten, Washington State DOT (Olympia, WA):

Limited research funds tend to be spent testing BMPs in situations where compliance with surface water quality standards is most in doubt.  As most infiltration facilities rarely discharge to surface waters, there tends to be less testing of them.
