Question from Texas Transportation Institute:

Can you elaborate on consistency with ITS regional architecture?

Reply from FHWA/FTA Headquarters:

A Regional ITS Architecture is: “A regional framework for ensuring institutional agreement and technical integration for the implementation of ITS projects or groups of projects.”  The regional ITS architecture must include the participation of all stakeholders concerned with implementing and operating the region’s ITS systems.   Development of the regional ITS architecture should be consistent with the transportation planning process for statewide and metropolitan transportation planning.  U.S. DOT provides a website where policy and additional outreach materials can be found: ITS Architecture Conformity website, http://www.its.dot.gov/aconform/aconform.htm. Regarding the NPRM, we encourage questions, comments, and/or wording suggestions on this topic be provided to the official docket.
